Clinical evaluation of moxalactam (Shiomarin^(¢ç)) in serious infections

Abstract
30 patients were treated with moxalactam in a non-comparative trial of hospitalized patients. 13 had respiratory tract infections, 3, urinary tract infections; 3, biliary tract infections; 7, sepsis; and 4, other infections. Patients were given 3-9 gram of moxalactam per day in divided doses every 6 to 3 hours for 4-20 days. Clinical responses were excellent in 14 cases, good in 14 cases and poor in 2 cases with efficacy of 93%. Moxalactam was well tolerated except 1 case of drug-induced diarrhea and 3 cases of superinfection. In vitro sensitivity test showed. broad antimicrobial activity in Gram positive and negative microbes with the exception of Enterococcus. We conclude that moxalactam was effective in tt treatment of various types of serious infection and produced few adverse reactions.
